Guest baumgrenze
I am about to refoam the woofers on a pair of AR-5's. I have some questions.1) Is the foam used in these replacement surrounds really closed-cell? 2) If it isn't, of what use is a tight seal between the speaker frame and its mounting, since air will leak through the porous foam?3) Are all of the surrounds being sold on the web of similar quality?4) If not, where have others found high quality surrounds?5) Has anyone dealt with http://www.wooferrepair.com/ar.html? 6) If so, what is your opinion of the surrounds they sell?Thank you in advance,Baumgrenze

As recommended in another topic "where to buy AR9 parts", I bought them from partsexpress. I bought both 8" mid/woofer and AR11" woofer refoam surround and refoamed them myself. I couldn't tell you if the refoam material makes much difference. The stuff I got from partsexpress seems to work well. Jazz records on my Thorens sounds really good on my AR9's...If you have any questions, I'm sure to help in anyway I can...
