Guest michelesurdi Posted July 15, 2005 Report Share Posted July 15, 2005 I have owned lots of 70s ar speakers,matching them with (superscope)marantz amps,as was the fashion then in italy.I began with a marantz 1030 ar 7 combo and ended up with 3300 pre ,250 amp and LSTs,by way of ar 6 and 2x with the 1060 amp.the best combo I have ever had was the 1120 amp and ar3a 2nd series (3a imp were a marketing scam,simplified manufacturing,higher price).I used the thorens 125 sme 3009 shure v15 front end.nice sound no dynamics,best bass in the world.I wonder how they'd sound with decent tube amps and cables.I use tannoys,nagras and a meridian cd now,but still I wonder.does anybody have any experience with using ar3as or LSTs (brave project,indifferent results)with modern hi-end gear?
