Kindness ends ebay saga

Hi there;

Owing to a kindness of a member, I have deleted the entire incident.

As a closure to this saga, I suggest you use caution when dealing with strangers at a distance, with your hard earned money.

There is still many, many more honest people than my experience would indicate.

Thank you.

End of story.

Have a bad experience on ebay vern ? I did as well.

I bought a pair of BW 220i floor standers because i once owned a pair i traded in for my BW 630i's.

I wanted the 220i back because i liked they way the sounded on phono lps.

Anyway when i got them something was uneven about them like the trebble was slightly more transparent in one side making them worthless to me. This was before i had my amp rehabbed so i blammed the amp.

However i could not detect that difference on the 630'i.

Not being very technical but knowing something was wrong i finaly decided to uncrew the tweeter off both left and right side of the (220i) that i bought on ebay, only to find the magnent behind the tweeter was bigger on one side then the other side. I took them to my audio shop only to find out one tweeter was from a 220 and the other was from a 220i.

Making things worse BW doesnt carry parts for the 220 series anymore, only parts for newer models like the 630 series and the current 603 series. so im stuck with a worthless pair of speakers as a result of not doing my homework and ebay.

Dont get me wrong im sure there are plenty of good sellers on ebay, I would be weary of spending more then 200 bucks i guess.

The only thing that upset me was he said he was the only owner, obviously some change was made to them as a faulty repair probally because he coudlent get the right part from B&W either.

Its not a hudge loss, just note BW does not make parts for that model or series or anything they made in the late 1980's anymore, thats why i partly blame myself, dident do my homework.

Hi there;

I would just keep my eyes out for used tweeters on ebay.

Perhaps a member can suggest something to you, such as, adding a small inline resistor for the more efficient tweeter.

Do a google search for B&W support sites.

There may be other persons with similar needs.

thanks vern but i dont have the 220i anymore i tried finding the right tweeter for a long time, I ended up trading it in for less then it was worth for credit at my audioplace, still have the 630i, in some ways better, but the 220i was better on lps and sweeter sounding overall to me,( The orginal pair i once owned did) the 630's have more range and have better tranparency powerfull mids and bass but not as natural sounding, a little harsh in some cases. thanks for the imput though ;)
