I managed to get a pair of AR Classic Model 12s for free because there are holes in all four woofers. However, the cones themselves seem okay. I think it is just the dust caps that are punctured/torn. Actually, it seems they are just sort of disintegrating which is something I have never seen before even on much older speakers. There are a lot of different dust caps out there made of a lot of different materials but what might come closest to the originals? I’d like to restore these to the extent it makes sense. I assume I need to cut them off and then glue on new ones. Any gotchas? This is my first foray into AR.
