  1. Guys:

Trying to keep these forums (well, largely this forum) from blowing up seems to have become a full-time job for Gene, when all I was hoping for originally was that he would help me keep spammers out. You all only see part of what he deals with... if you took into account private messages and emails, I think most people would have given up already. Here's a look at some of what he's dealing with now:

1.) Griping about the fact that we agreed to remove posts

2.) Griping because we aren't banning people

3.) Griping that there's too much moderation

4.) Griping that there's not enough

I'm shutting this forum down. If people can't keep things civil in the rest of the forums here, I'll use the ban functionality liberally. Please step back and think about what's going on here... this website is maintained to help people repair their classic New England speakers, not to entertain - there are plenty of other forums for that, and on some insulting each other is fair game too. Not here.

  2. I want this site to be in english (im from Norway). My english isnt the best, so i want a partner who writes good english. I might also set up a forum, as i would think snell.no could get alot more people than this one (no affens). I have some ideas to how the site could get LOTS of hits.

No offense taken. If you are successful setting up a classic Snell website, I would be glad to link to it from here. I added this Snell forum because I had multiple requests, but haven't opened up a Snell Library area because of the volume of work I have pending in the sections that already exist.

  3. Per the Forum Terms & Rules:

"3. You will verify your posts are on-topic."

    and

"10. You will avoid posting links to eBay auctions that you are associated with."

For sale / Wanted items should *only* be placed in the For sale / Wanted area. Posts regarding eBay auctions, as will as the user accounts responsible for the posts, will be deleted at my discretion. Visitors have made it clear that they do not want The Classic Speaker Pages to become muddled with links to auction items.

  4. Andy has developed a new classic KLH model history for everyone. I have converted his list into a spreadsheet and am attaching my first draft. Please respond with your comments and suggestions. I will update the next draft with the suggestions I receive here (and that Andy signs off on) and then will place the completed spreadsheet in the Library.

    Thanks,

  5. I think it's time we have a pinned topic for the "Restoring the AR-3a" document developed by six of our esteemed members - Roy Champagne, Ken Kantor, Minh Luong, John O’Hanlon, Bret Thiel, and Tom Tyson. The document is available here:

    http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/library...ring_the_ar-3a/

Per John's suggestion, I have put a counter on this page (available when I run statistics) so we can see how popular this document becomes.

If you have feedback on the document and how it has impacted your restoration project, please reply to this thread.

  6. We seem to be having a problem with new users and cross-posting. Cross-posting is prohibited per the Forum Terms & Rules that new users see during registration and they are always available at the top of the screen in the forums.

I'm not sending individual emails to users breaking the Forum Terms & Rules - I will simply delete the user account and any problematic posts. If I need to, I'll begin banning IP addresses.

We need to all do our part to keep the signal to noise level in check here. Cross-posting is annoying and can create significant confusion as separate threads develop.

  7. Hi Roy;

Thank you very much for your very thorough report.

Certainly gives us all an option for rejuvenating our old AR and KLH cloth surrounds.

I tried to think of another speaker company that used cloth surrounds in our classic speakers, I couldn't think of any.

As a side note, I wanted to print out this write-up.

I wasn't successful finding a way to print it out, yet.

I did save the attachments, but not the printout.

    Hi Vern,

Go to the Options drop-down and select "Print this topic."

  8. Hello all,

I'm readying a major update to The Classic Speaker Pages. I could use help in two areas as I prepare the new KLH section:

1.) A concise 1-2 paragraph biography on KLH

2.) Ideas on how (if) I can better organize the various classic KLH products

I am going to post a similar message in the other forums and will be pinning this topic in each. I realize we already have some bios in the Library, but I want to take a shot at a new bio that all visitors to the KLH section will see when they enter.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  9. In terms of organization, the AR section may be the best off. I solicited comments from Tom and others during the first reorganization. If everyone is ok with the way things are laid out now, I'll simply move that structure over to the new website.

Regarding additional material... I have a queue at my place as well. The new website template will make managing content *much* easier, so I'll get that done first then move onto adding content.

I hope to have a prototype ready to show some of you this weekend.

  10. Hello all,

I'm readying a major update to The Classic Speaker Pages. I could use help in two areas as I prepare the new Cizek section:

1.) A concise 1-2 paragraph biography on Cizek

2.) Ideas on how (if) I can better organize the various classic Cizek products (e.g. does anyone know the various stages of ownership of Cizek speaker companies and the products produced under each?)

I am going to post a similar message in the other forums and will be pinning this topic in each. I realize we already have some bios in the Library, but I want to take a shot at a new bio that all visitors to the Cizek section will see when they enter.

    Thanks,

  16. I really do not want to have to exert "big brother" authority in these forums, but will if I have to.

Personal attacks and flame wars are not acceptable on The Classic Speaker Pages. I understand flame wars have become a tradition on lots of audio sites and newsgroups, but I won't accept them here - the content on this website, contributed by visitors, is too unique and valuable.

I need everyone to moderate themselves. Please take the higher road if you think you have been slighted, and chalk it up to agreeing to disagree and the nature of Internet communication.

I have been receiving email about how some threads have devolved and become very aggressive. I don't have time to keep on top of all the threads, and the time I do have I would prefer be spent on updating content and fixing bugs.

Hopefully this is the last time I have to post something like this. Again, I don't want to have to delete threads and revoke posting access, but I will if I need to - if simply to reduce the time I spend dealing with complaints.

    Hi Ken!

I will get the data up in the Library this weekend, or sooner if work permits. The only problem I seem to have over here with connectivity is when my housekeeper blows fuses or disconnects network cables when I'm in other countries. Like last week. ;)
