  1. Mine was the original post in this thread. At the time my original Dynaco preamp was:

"Preamp - Dynaco PAT-5 (BiFET version)"

About three years ago, it developed a buzz of sorts. Rather than mess around with it, I sent it all to AVA (Van Alstine) for a full upgrade. The only inside component remaining was the power transformer. The unit was completely gutted. All new components and boards were fitted Also, new RCA jacks were fitted with increased spacing (which allowed newer cables to be fitted without jamming)

    It's great!

My whole system now cover the time span from the 60s to the 2010s

  2. Hi Fred;

I personally do not know of a Dynaco Model 100 Dynaco speaker system.

There may have been one made.

There has been several models pop up on this site as new members come on board.

Some models were available in Europe and a later series was made in Canada.

The Canadian versions were not that successful as were the later versions made in the USA.

The A-10, A-25, A-35 and A-50 were the more well known models, with the A-25 leading the pack in volume sales.

There was the later XL versions but the original classics were the more popular.

While doing some Googling, I stumbled on this advert from Aug/Sept of this year:

Excellent Dynaco A-100 Speakers Made In Denmark

    Price $85

Description Coming from 1976, these speakers have been, without doubt, the biggest audio bargain I have had the good fortune to come across.

The A-100's house a 10" woofer with a 1" soft dome high end tweeter in oiled walnut cabinet with a special dampening port. The sonic properties of this modestly priced system are truly astounding - seamless integration, high efficiency, wide treble dispersion, and superior transient response. These speakers are rated at 50 watt power handling RMS continuous and 85 watt maximum power and should be used with amps of 15 watts or more.

The mere fact that Dynaco speakers are still functioning at their original high level capabilities many decades after their manufacture is a testament to their high quality and craftsmanship.

You will be stunned to hear how they sound, with crisp highs and the neutral, fast base.

All driver surrounds and the drivers (made by SEAS) are in excellent shape and the speakers work 100%, without any issues. No grills, hence the low price.

Millions of pair of Dynaco speakers were sold; here's your chance.

Hull Sector (Quebec) (Where is this?)

    ------------------------------------------------------------

It looks like the A-100 is based on the A-25.

  3. This Dynaco forum is dedicated to Dynaco speakers (which I use) but I think it would be of interest for our members to list what other Dynaco equipment (electronics) are used. As for me:

Amplifiers (two monoblocks) - Home-brew Ultra-linear Williamsons with Dynaco 430 output transformers

Preamp - Dynaco PAT-5 (BiFET version)

    Equalizer - Dynaco SE-10

Also, a 'retired'' (but functioning) PAS-3X

    Other components are non-Dynaco.

I should also mention that I used a Dynaco B&O cartridge back then (during the 70s).

  4. It appears that with my hearing loss, I could get by with a lot of less expensive low fi equipment and without tweeters too. LOL

My wife has been nagging me to have my ears checked (and to get hearing aids). After reading the thread that you started about hearing loss, I will take it seriously. Using a test tape I was able to barely hear 8K and things were about right at 5K and on down. Well into my 30s I was able hear the 15,750 Hz whistle from TV flyback transformers. Those days are long gone.
