Lucky Pierre
I found these this week at a local store/repair shop. This is pair #2 for me of these lovely little speakers.
JKent
Excellent! They look really mint! For those not familiar with these, each box is a ported design using 2 of the excellent 4" full-range drivers used in the Model Twenty-One radio (and others). It has, IIRC, an LCR filter. From the front, the dimensions are the same as the Model 21 extension speaker but it is twice as deep. Makes an excellent extension speaker, providing more bass than the 21 (11, 708, etc.). Good choice for an office or bedroom system. Great find!
Lucky Pierre
Thanks Kent! Can you explain to me, in layman's terms, the difference between a filter and a crossover? Peter
JKent
Others here may be better at this, but my understanding is a crossover makes the transition (crosses over) between two drivers so, for example, the tweeter does not receive low frequency signals. A filter is for a single driver (or in this case, 2 identical full-range drivers wired together) and it is meant to "shape" the signal in a way to provide the flattest frequency response for that driver in that environment. Lucky Pierre
Thanks Kent, I know how crossovers work. Your explanation of filters makes sense. Peter
