Chris1this1
I have a pair of these speakers, and I feel they are lacking in that department. My AR2ax's have more pronounced bass in a side-by-side comparison. Can anyone comment on this observation? I apologize if anybody read the unamended post, I had some phasing confusion but I just checked it out and it's checking out OK .
frankmarsi
1-3-17 All AR-LST speakers were designed to have their backs up closely against a wall. In this case referred to as the ‘front wall’, or the wall you face when listening to them. LST’s, be it the LST or LST2’s are particular in this room type of placement more than most other conventional speakers. I’ve once fool heartedly tried to do otherwise and I met up with them sounding like smaller ineffective speakers. It was very disappointing. Place them against a wall and they will perform as expected. Typically not more than 3 or so inches, closer being more effective. Also, the big guys and the smaller 2’s require an amplifier that is able to adequately power them, there is no hoping that a weaker than required amp will do the job as intended. In fact, it can be stated that the bigger the amp, the better while using that power judicially along with the correct fusing. P.S. This type of AR midrange is notorious for soaking up watts and you've got three of them per speaker. FM
Chris1this1
That's an interesting perspective Frank. I have similar conclusions. My room is indeed a very difficult room, but that's where I want them. basically each speaker is up against the wall, elevated 2 feet. Prior they were about 4 inches lower and interestingly enough, raising them the 4 inches made the bass sound noticeably stronger . The wall is unique in the fact that it is almost an island, extending out 3 feet with open space on either side, with the speakers on each side of this wall. I'm trying to work with what I have. Ideally, they would be on the floor, which I've experimented with and the bass was much more pronounced, but they look a bit odd on the floor, and they sound like they are on the floor for lack of a better description. Before I freshened these LST2's up, I was using my EPI M201 speakers, and they were absolutely thunderous in the same set up but standing on the ground as they are intended to be. With my same amp (Onkyo Integra A-8087 100WPC) at high level's, the EPI's would walk forward from the wall. However, although they had great low-end, The mids and highs of the LST2's are unparalleled by anything I've ever heard and I will sacrifice some lowered bass output for the aforementioned... but I'd still like to try and optimize the overall sound. GD70
Placement & room environment will make huge differences with these. In my cave, which is sonically challenged for these, they sound good, but like you, the bass is ok. They are raised about 4 inches off the carpeted floor. I brought them to an AK gathering, and in the space I had to set up, a hallway, equally crappy sonically, the bass was incredible, almost shocking to me as I hadn't heard them go this deep before. So play around with placement, they are capable of great bass. Glenn
