JKent
I noticed ebay item 381740169510, a pair of KLH Model Twenty-Eights. They're $600 OBO with local pick-up in Auburn, ME or shipped for $100 to $170. They need work: One door is missing, no grilles or stands but these are very cool, rather rare collectible KLHs. There is a good thread on AK about restoring these. If you have the skill to restore them and can get him to accept a fair price you could have some really cool speakers. I have nothing to do with this sale, just posting FYI.
ra.ra
These interesting speakers do not come along every day, so it'd be great to see these end up with an appreciative new owner. Wow!!....that seller has quite an odd assortment of items up for auction - - - including the helicopter. The AK thread that Kent mentioned is one of the best restoration threads I have ever read or followed - - detailed descriptions, excellent pics, top notch craftsmanship, terrific feedback. Last time I looked, though, only about half of the images were still active, unfortunately - - perhaps the browser you use will provide better results. http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/klh-model-28-rare-find-restoration.577202/
DavidDru
I've been looking for 28's for some time. Even have the stands for them already. Of course Maine is about as far away as it could get.
DavidR
I think its amazing Bose didn't sue them over this design. Or maybe they tried.
ra.ra
Not sure I understand your point, David. Did Bose own the exclusive rights to angled rear-firing drivers? If so, they'd also be suing EPI over their 601 and 602 speaker models, and probably other manufacturers who also embraced this concept. To me, this KLH model seems entirely unlike any Bose product I've ever seen.
DavidR
It's not whether I think there is a patent infringement but rather does/did Bose. Bose is known for suing just about anyone. They went after Micro Acoustics who was originally a TT cartridge manufacturer that ventured into speakers. They came out with a model that visually looked similar to a Bose speaker. Bose went after them and the result was M.A. went out of business trying to defend themselves. So, yes, I think it could have been possible they went after KLH for this model but I don't know for certain. I'll see if I can find a picture of the M.A. speaker. DavidR
I believe this is the speaker.......... Or this one. Look familiar to any Bose model?
