Korina veneer

Even though I was able to find some informed text discussion after doing a search of this site, I was unable to find a photo of this veneer option offered by AR back in the early 60's. So, simply for informational purposes, these pics of the "Korina" veneer cabinets are being posted for curious interest. Currently for sale on a public auction site listed as AR-2a's, these speakers have actually been converted to 2ax's with replacement mid-range drivers. Korina, a beautiful light wood from Africa, is a species totally unfamiliar to me, but apparently it was often used in the fabrication of musical instruments, including the beloved Gibson Les Paul guitars.

And if you might like some musical pleasure while ogling exotic veneer, here's a personal fave clip of a very old blues tune.

Totally agree, David. These pics are not terribly flattering but it would be great to see a "blonde" finish which has a bit more character than birch, and I suspect this rare species just might be the ticket. I've never seen Korina in person, nor in the marketplace other than this instance.

This time I do not agree with you, David. The pic in my initial post was of very poor quality, but if you look at the online sale and inspect the images, you will see that the rare Korina finish presents a very unique combination of texture and tone. I do hope that this enhanced image communicates this point. Even better, it would be great to hear and see some images from any CSP member that might own a pair of AR speakers with this rare optional finish.

I guess with it being so consistent it sorta looks manufactured.  Maybe I am just visualizing how good it could be with a great finish and looking ahead to that.

My wood grain on my ADS L1590's is similar.  They need to be spruced up and until they are, they just don't pop like I know they would once glowing again.
