This morning i will bring my 2 towers to a repair shop to fix the foam problem on the 4 woofer, i bought this pair of T1030 brand new in 1992, and since about the last 5 years i don't use them because of the foam problem, they sit in the basement in a corner of a room, and today it's the last day of that... lolllll As i read on the forum, the midrange look ok, the foam suspension don't look damaged and it's not sticky like the woofer on the T1030 or like a pair of HD7 i used for the rear channel on my surround system Denon AVR-810, i think i will need to repair the HD7 too... foam look intact, nothing look broken but when you touch it it's feel like glue on the foam. My question is: when i listen music in the good years of the speaker, in 1992 to 2009, i play music throught the amplifier of the Denon it's sounds good, but something missing... in 2004 i received a QSC1200 from a friend and when i plug the QSC1200 between the pre-amp out of the Denon and the T1030, it's sound so different, so "dynamic" and powerfull, i really like the sound... Is it dangerous for the T1030 to use a QSC1200, it's a 100 Watts/8 Ohms or 150 Watts/4 ohms per channel? The project... Finding a second pair of T1030 and a second QSC, and listening music and dvd of live show like Blue Man Group, RUSH, Genesis, Supertramp, that's the kind of music i like to listen, having 2 T1030 side by side will sound good, or they need a minimum of space between them thank you to answer my question and if you have any suggestion i will appreciate Stéphane Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JKent Posted March 13, 2016 Report Share Posted March 13, 2016 Hi Stéphane and welcome to the CSP! No--it's not dangerous to use the QSC the way you are doing. Your speakers are in more danger from too little power than from too much. 80 wpc from the Denon should be enough though. Maybe the Denon has a problem in the power amp. Those are really nice speakers. The info I've found says: Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohms * Recommended Power: 15 – 150 Watts Nominal, 200 Watts Peak Maybe your participation here will help you decide to re-foam the speakers yourself. Nech Posted March 13, 2016 Author Report Share Posted March 13, 2016 Hi JKent, thank you for your answer I'm from Montréal, Québec, Canada, juste few hundreds miles north of your area, i speak french most of the time, but often i have to speak english, sometime i will not use the good time of verb, for something past i will use present or future, kind of funny error like this..., i'm pretty close to be bilingual but for me not perfectly enough to say i'm bilingual. For the foam job, speaker are gone today to a technician for the job, in 3 to 6 weeks they will be back home and i hope they gonna be like new, the long delay are for waiting for parts, he order maybe 1 time a month from a supplier in USA to cut cost of shipping, handling and custom fee... For the Denon vs QSC, Denon is powerfull too, sounds realy good, but i feel and ear something more and better with the QSC, i read in another discussion here that the T1030 have a "kind of variable impedence" from 8 to 4 ohms at low frequency and i was affraid the QSC can give too much power to the speaker when i listen music at maximum level Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Nech Posted April 17, 2016 Author Report Share Posted April 17, 2016 They are back home near since 2 week now, i don't have a lot of time to listen to them, but when i listen to them, i feel they sound a little bit different,less bass, maybe the time and using them and the suspension will be smoother and the bass will be more present... nosubs Posted April 18, 2016 Report Share Posted April 18, 2016 When I refoamed the woofers my T-830s it took some time before they loosened up. Also, sometimes shops apply a preservative to the foam to make it last longer. It may stiffen the foam for a while. Just keep playing them, even when your not listening. Nech Posted June 4, 2016 Author Report Share Posted June 4, 2016 Hi, Since the last time i came here, i spend more time listening music and i think and feel the sound change since the first day i listen to them after the foam repair, sound better in the low end now, and few days ago, i decide to install the QSC1200 and it's sound so great, so powerfull, a real real real pleasure for my ears. But my questions are: Sometime i like listening music at really high level, something like you have in a night club or in a live rock show, with one pair of T1030 in my room, it's pretty close of what i'm looking for, or "earing for", do you think a second pair of T1030 will give me what i'm searching? Having two speaker side by side will change the sound i presently have with one only? Or adding 1 or 2 subwoofer will be more efficient? and wich model? don't need to be a 2016 model, i will try to find on classifieds ads. Thank you for your answers and suggestions. nosubs Posted June 4, 2016 Report Share Posted June 4, 2016 How Freaking loud do you need it?!?! If you are driving 2 T1030s with up to 100W and you have them between 2 and 3 meters apart and are listening about the same distance back your ears should hurt before you get any distortion, I would think. If you need more volume, I would think the subwoofer route would produce the best results. If the Denon AVR 810 has bass management, it would relieve the QSC of the bass power requirement and allow more power for the mid and treble. Your real problem could be the Denon and or QSC. It might be best so spend your money an a reasonable integrated amp or Receiver (Outlaw RR2150, $700. Yamaha A S891, $900) first. The Outlaw has provisions for adding and managing a powered subwoofer. These are 2 channel (or 2.1) solutions. I'm not a multichannel user. Few week ago, i find on Montréal Kijiji ad's a pair of Mission 700as subwoofer for 80$ canadian, for that price, before i can use them properly, they need a little bit of love, a kind of refurbish, adding renforcement pieces of woods inside each corner of the box, i need to change the 10" woofer on each box, i find a JBL 10" subwoofer (50$ canadian each) that will fit with the size of the 1,9 cubic feet box, not easy to find the good speaker for an existing box, most 10" on the market in 2016 are designed for 1 cubic feet box, i am lucky to find the JBL at that price, maybe a discontinued speaker still on shelf at the store where i find it, and for my box, it's a bass reflex, i just need to modify the port size and lenght, i discuss of that part of this project on a French site of Hi-Fi DIY loudspeaker, and i will bring the 2 amplifier to a technician to verify them to be sure everything will be in good order of work, i expect less of 300-350$ canadian for the complete project. in the futur, if i like to change the Mission for BostonAcoustics subwoofer, wich model are a good value? Finally the subs will stay original, i bring both original 10'' speaker to a speaker repair specialist and he repair them ( 1 voice coil change and 2 dustcap ) for little less than 2 new speaker, and i don't need to modify the port size... less work to do... I am still waiting for the repair of one of the amplifier, the technician wait for parts to fix it. With 1 sub working, i need less power in the T1030, with both sub working, i think it will be a good improvement... A lot of things change in the last 2 years, but i think i find a good set-up, a Denon PMA-1080R integrated amplifier instead of the previous Denon receiver i have since 1992, the AVR-810, the sound produced by the T1030 with the PMA-1080R are so amazing now, no more needs of subwoofer...
