BrianO Posted March 3, 2015 Report Share Posted March 3, 2015 HII'm checking the caps in a 3A both 150uf and 50uf measure good as does the 6uf wax covered cap the wax is stapled to the back but there is black stuff on the back of the wax cap. Did the cap leak or is that just some padding for vibration?ThanksBrian OHaven't worked on a 3a but I'm assuming the black stuff is the remnant of the black foam that they used for padding. It turns to black goo.The ESR of old caps is another measurement that should be considered. Most just opt for new caps unless they are the later Sprague electrolytics.
