Carlspeak
Here is an example of a problematic design that employs an upward facing woofer located at the top of a cabinet. The woofer's cone and dust cap were originally coated with a sticky substance. The combination of the two creates a dust magnet of sorts. Another potential issue caused by the added weight of the dirt on the cone (in addition to the cone wgt.) is spider sag. So, those of you who are owners of Allison speakers with an upward facing woofer at the top of the cabinet should remove the perforated plate and inspect your woofers. The failure of the surround is normal considering the speaker's age. However, It will take some effort to clean this one up as part of a restoration. When the repair has been completed, I'll post an "after" pic. Jeff_C
It amazes me that this sorry looking woofer can be restored. Most "normal" people would have dumped it as beyond repair. I look forward to seeing the finished article
Carlspeak
Here you go Jeff.Cleaned up and with a new, proper, filleted foam and cone coating. The second image is a WT2 test report showing the T/S paramaters quite close to original specs.
