RobHolt
I'd be interested in opinions on this subject with regard to those AR drivers using ferrofluid. It's found in the later production tweeters and i'm wondering just how long this fluid lasts in the AR drivers.I can see no easy way to check without wrecking the driver but perhaps someone who's dismantled AR drivers could offer some thoughts. Carlspeak
Typically, FF is used in tweeters mostly. It's been my experience it thickens up from lack of use of the tweeter. The best way to test the effect is to run an acoustice SPL test. Tweeters with highly viscous FF will roll off abnormally quickly - say around 8-10 kHz or even less sometimes. Normally, most tweeters don't start rolling off until 12-15 kHz or higher. Trying to test for these difference with simple listening tests is almost fruitless. RobHolt
Thanks Carl,The two pairs of 1.25" dome/cone I have with ferrofluid both go to 20khz with ease, with a little peaking around 14-15k which I think is normal for these models.I'll assume all is well with those
