HarryM Posted September 2, 2012 Report Share Posted September 2, 2012 I have a chance to pick up 2 Altec Lansing 2280a amps.These are 8 channels with 78 watts per channel at 64 ohms.They can run from 1 to 8 speakers each depending on how you hook them up.I've read up on them but can't really make sense of what I'm reading.I would post a link but I don't know how.I don't know if these would be suitable for AR's and I also don't know how to hook them up since they only have speaker wire connectors for both input and output.How do I go from the rca's on my stereo or preamp to the connectors on the amp.Will they handle a 4 ohm load.Any help is greatly appreciated,it's been giving me a headache for a week now.LOL.Thanks,Harry. HarryM Posted September 2, 2012 Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2012 I agree,with these amps you can parallel as many channels as you want to get up to 624 watts into 1 channel at 8 ohms.They are made up of 8 single 78 watt amps which would make them very versatile and each amp can be adjusted seperately.They seem like they would be an ideal amp to run alot of different speakers.I'm thinking of these to use to create my wall of AR sound.LOL.Then I can use my Haflers to biamp the 3a's,then I just need to find another amp to run the 91's.Yes it might be a little much but it would be fun.
