Sonnar Posted November 1, 2016 Report Share Posted November 1, 2016 No, I have AR 3a 1990 Replica made by Teledyne with Tonegen foam surround woofer. My father had early 3a with 3 cloth surround woofer and in 1972 another pair with ferrite foam surround woofer . When he switched to LST ( and later 10 Pi ) he gave me his AR 3a , I used it for many years. So I have a reasonable knowledge of 3a bass, but I 'm not able to hear big differences , just a little better flatness in AR 3 woofer and perhaps a silghtly deepest bass. AR 3a has a sort of " bump " in the midbass region, more apparent in original 3a , slightly less in 3a replica , which give a sort of " chubby " , also described as " warm " type of sound .
