Thx Hi thereThe AR-6, which we here call an AR, "classic speaker", wasn't made in the 1980's or '90's.What I read here is that there is a pair of speakers named AR-6 which are still in their boxes, un-opended.They were made in 1998 and they are not what we consider a classic AR speaker. genek
The Classic series was manufactured during AR's Canton MA days (which I think was while Jensen owned the brand). MSRP was around $700/pr. I've never heard them.

gary_wong5
Thx Gary. May i know why you sold the speakers? Did you use biwiring?Hi DSubra,The only drawback I found is masked vocal and less dispersion in HF. I preferred *single wire* with jumpers attached than biwiring. In the past I read and admire how members here share their opinion about vintage AR3 and/or AR3a speakers. Therefore I sold the Model 8 and got myself 302T and finally my dreamed AR3.My little advice: If you require bookshelf speaker, please go for vintage AR, e.g. AR2ax, AR3 or AR3a. dsubra
Thank you guys for the advice. Already drop the idea of getting AR Classic 6, will look for the better model.
PhillipLammers
I have acquired the classic 6 speakers and I can say that there is no masked vocals and the treble and imaging are excellent. They don't have the deepest bass but they still sound great. I have a subwoofer to fill in the bottom. I'm trying to find more information about them as well
PhillipLammers
I have the classic model 6. They sound very good but I also have paradigm and b&w and kef and infinity and jbl and I haven't really spent much time with them. I'm thinking about changing the woofers to see if I can get a little more bass just for the hell of it since I have several subwoofer I could be using. I can't stop messing with the speakers long enough to give them a good listen
Dchristie
Filling in the bottom with a sub ( as you are currently doing) is much more preferable compared to trying to find a different bass driver that will go lower IMHO. The bass drivers in all of the AR classic 2-ways are also covering a good deal of midrange frequencies and getting a proper match to the tweeter with another driver would require some skill and/or luck on your part and you may change that classic AR 6 sound you so like. The AR 6 has a very nice blending of the drivers which leads to it's very good sound. However, part of this hobby is certainly "messing" with the equipment so have at it ?. I have also done some messing with AR speakers and am very pleased with the results although my mods have been minimal and not too radical.
