AR23? As far as I know, there's an AR28 (in the 9 line) and a 20, but I'm not aware of a 23. I couldn't find a reference to it in the timeline, but it only goes to 1993.

Good luck buddy, I hope someone keeps up on the newer AR stuff. Sorry I couldn't help much.

There was no such thing as an "AR-23" in any of the legitimate AR product families from 1954-1990.

As I listed in a previous post, here are the original AR speakers:

The original, classic models (1954-1974):

AR-1, 1w, 1x, 2, 2a, 2x, 2ax, 3, 3a, 3t, 3st, 3a Improved, 4, 4x, 4xa, 5, 6, 7, 8, LST, LST-2.

The ADD/Truth in Listening models (1975-1978):

10pi, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, MST

The Verticals/High Tech Series (1978-1981):

9, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94

The orphan/anniversary models (1979, 1984):

25, 30 bookshelf, 30 floorstander

The ‘un-classic’ series, including s, B, BX, BXi (1981-1987):

9LS, LSi, 98LS, LSi, 78LS, 58, 48, 38, 28, 18

The Connoisseur Series (1985-1988):

19, 20, 30 (different than the ‘orphan’ 30 above), 35t, 40, 40t, 50, 50t, subwoofer

The Magic Speakers (1986-1988):

MGC-1, MGC-2

The Partners

The TSW series (1987-1990):

100B, 105, 115P, 110, 210, 310, 315, 410, 415, 510, 610, 710, 810, 910 (and all the various “A” models)

I'd say the model AR-23 is either an error or a counterfeit product.

(However, there WAS a KLH-23.)

The dimensions of your speaker match the Conneseur 20 speaker, but are much heavier. Also, that speaker was made in the 80's.

Quite a mystery! Sounds like you've got a genuine knock-off. Sounds like they went to great pains to reproduce the AR look, too. Oiled walnut and such... I can't imagine it's need to fill an niche, however, with the 4 available around this time. Perhaps in the wake of all the 3 purchses, the 4 was ignored and this speaker filled the 8" driver gap. Who knows. The binding posts certainly are not AR quality, however... I don't think screw terminals were used on any AR speakers at any time.
