Guest dogmeninreno
Hello, I have a set of AR9's that have the acoustic blanket insert around the tweeter and another set that is without them, There are no velcro mounts on the tweeters and they appear to be AR originals on the one without. Does anyone know what difference this makes in the speakers?
Guest Barrydor
There have been a couple of threads on the forum regarding AR9's that have the acoustic blanket inserts and those that do not.To the best of my knowledge, early AR9's did not have the fillers and later models did. The inserts were held to the driver flanges with three or four round Velcro pads.To the best of my knowledge, all of the AR91 and AR92 models had the inserts. Perhaps they were added to the AR9 after these models were introduced.According to Ken Kantor, the inserts were made of a special material because some types of foam proved to be acoustically reflective rather than absorbing and were therefore unsuitable. My early AR9's came without the inserts and I did not become aware of their existance until much later. I recently made my own inserts by cutting suitable pieces from heavy felt with an X-acto knife. In my opinion, they improve the imaging slightly.Barry
Guest Brian_D
I have an early pair of 9's (1978), and they have the acoustic blanket around the tweeters. They are velcroed on with three little round pieces each.Perhaps it was a dealer thing? Maybe certain areas got them and others didn't? My pair came from the UK (purchased there and then shipped back to the states by someone in the military)I dunno. I'll look around and see if there is a similar fabric available. I don't think it's synthetic, and if it's pattented, the patent papers will list the material.I'll see what I can find out.
