wilson
Hi folks, I picked up a pair of Model Six's this afternoon at a thrift store. After doing a bit of research I've come to the conclusion that I probably got a pair of the early epoxy versions. I was very happy with my find until I realized that they probably don't come apart. Walnut veneer with nice original grill cloth (the boucle type). Serial # 070102 and 068844. Both tweeters measure open circuit from the back posts. From my reading I've gathered that it is possible to get into the crossover from the back? The rectangle aluminum back plate is held on with 8 pins - do the posts and toggle switch stay with the crossover or can they be left attached to the plate? Can I actually get at anything from under these plates or am I just going to find a block of epoxy? Thanks for any help - I'd hate to give up on these without at least checking the crossover. Carlspeak
If you do a search both here and over at audiokarma.org/speakers you should get some hits on threads that detail ways folks have figured out how to get inside these beasts.Good luck. wilson
Well, It looks like these do have screw in tweeters so I guess that sacrificing the grill cloth is not that big a deal. It will also give me the opportunity to permatex the woofer surrounds. Is any of that nubby boucle fabric available - or do I need to move to AR style irish linen? Thanks.
