Hi there PART 1 of 5

I will be scanning and posting my collection of AR literature here over a period of a few days or so.

Standby.

This is the AR-LST blueprint photocopied in manageable sizes plus a few other repeats.

This is my photocopies of an original AR blueprint.

If I was to have the blueprint on a cd or dvd I can get it printed as long as it is less than 54" in one direction.

It can be as long as one would want though.

It would be $4.50 per square foot just to print.

We have lost some good copy companies here in the last few years.

I would need to search out a company here that can scan such a large drawing and it would not be cheap either.

You will need to jigsaw the sheets together yourself.

If I have downloaded any from this site, Mark or Gene can delete them.

I scanned in 200 dpi which is my new scanners default, but it can be incresed slightly to 300 dpi.

I used a post-it-note with a number which is not in page order or document order, just tried to keep them identified only.

None are over 600KB in size.

Enjoy.

Hi there

None of the first 21 are over 600KB in size.

Enjoy.

Here is some more. PART 2 of 5

Sadly, one review is missing the 2nd page of the AR-6 speaker.

These are not in a particular order and are not identified by a number.

More another day.

I have about another 2" high stack of paperwork left, of AR alone, after this posting.

Wally had me scan and burn to cd, part of his collection of literature from various brands.

I have never posted any of that information to here or anywhere else.

If I remember correctly there was over 600 pages copied and burned to cd.

Wally's paperwork was returned and a cd copy for him as well.

The stack was about the size of a 500 sheet paper package for our printers.

It cost about $13.00 postage here in Canada to return it to him.

I believe I mailed a copy to Mark at that time as well.

I don't know if Wally or Mark are going to followup or want me to somehow make this information available.

That data is from a multitude of different brands, AR, Dynaco, EPI, KLH, JBL, Goodmans, etc, etc and even some Canadian.

Illness, house flooding and me damaging my scanner delayed scanning it.

I was also not as familiar with how to scan and save pages correctly back then.

Enjoy

Hi there

Any comments so far?

Vern,

Thank you for posting them--I know it must have been a lot of work. I looked at each one, and enjoyed them all. I'd seen many before, but some were brand new to me.

Your efforts are recognized and greatly appreciated!

Hi there Photos part 3 of 5

I will downloading or uploading about 40+ files later this evening.

These are in no particular order and are not numbered for identification as well.

Some of these documents are original from AR.

They may have been photocopied or mimiographed, I am certain that some are fading badly.

I hope that I have not copied any from our site.

If I have please tell me and I will delete them.

The AR-3A Improved drawing was done by my big brother, Don, many years ago.

I scanned the reverse side of at least one AR topic.

I saw an interesting ad from a discounter so many years ago.

This is my best copies on hand at the moment.

Enjoy

Done for now

The next lot will include the AR receiver and AR Tuner.

I removed staples from some booklets, this will prevent more rust stains in the future.

Where a drawing is too large I double scanned and moved the paper an inch or so.

This is in case there is information on the folding crease.

Hi there AR photos Part 5

Hi there

AR photos part 5 of 5

I now have another 189 AR files only to upload here.

My suggestion to the members downloading these files is:

1. If I have copied a file from this site library please let me know and I can delete it.

2. If my scanned copy is better looking to your eyes than the one in the library, then I can leave this copy here.

3. If my scanned copy is a bad copy but the only one available, I will leave it here.

4. My suggestion is, if you have a better copy than I have posted, rather than keep adding the same photos, and

loading up the CSP hard drive, email it to me and I can return here and remove mine and update with your better photo or you can.

5. This will keep space hoggers to a minimum.

6. I also suggest that if I have duplicated anything or made an error in posting, please let know asap, so that I can rectify the situation

before the system times out for editing each write-up.

7. So that we do not keep adding and removing photos from this, "library que" perhaps any changes should be directed from Mark or Gene or

their appointed helper to help keep the continuity.

8. I have scanned all 189 of these just today, since I got up this morning in fact, and you are going to need to keep proper

order of the literature in this particular set.

9. I made no effort to number or identify almost everything in this upload.

10. The reason being, there is several AR catalogs with similar or identical front covers, unless I made a mistake they all have

either a version number or are dated differently printed on the rear outside cover page and they may contain different ads or prices.

11. I did scan from cover to cover of each catalog though in, as a set, and I hope in dated order.

12. AR, particularly, Roy F Allison, was very generous making this literature available for free to me and I have kept most of it as good

a condition as possible.

13. I am making it available to you for the same price. LOL

14. I do hope that I do not see it being sold on ebuy or anywhere else, I will not be pleased.

15. A few pieces are fading badly.

16. There is at least one page that I scanned twice.

17. I still have a little bit more AR literature to post here at a later date, but I will be posting the,

"Dynaco" brand next.

18. The line numbering here was for me, not you, so that I can see what I covered as much as possible.

Enjoy

HI Vern. Great effort.

I will help greatly for future hobbyists seeking information if you could put a descriptive title for each file explaning a bit what it's about.

Hi Carl

Thank you.

I just tried to add a description to the 1st file in Part 1 of 5.

I was not successful adding a description and only moved the file 1 to above the beginning of the write-up.

I would need to delete all of the uploads, add a description and re-post them.

There was about 9 hours of just scanning the Part 5 of 5 - 189 files.

Mind you, I now have all of these files on my hard drive now.

Unless Mark or Gene can suggest a way, I am stumped at the moment, as to how to do it here.

I see that the uploading process is a very smooth feature here now.

There is the 2 mb file size and 10 file limit but I had no problems at all with these, except I tried 11 files and

I was informed about the limit and I re-submitted 10 files again.

I just counted about 392+/- files and 94.6 MB of data that I scanned and uploaded here in Part 1 - 5 over a couple of days.

PS: I do not want any member getting a divorce for spending all your time reading or printing this information

until the wee hours of the morning. LOL

I still have about the same amount, or more, some of AR, Dynaco and some misc items left to scan and post in the future.

This still does not include the over 600+ files still on Wally's list.

Wally's list is a mixture of east coast, west coast, Canadian and other files.

Even I had not seen a lot of them before.

I have the privilege of uploading files now but still not to email members through this sites system.

Who found this information here of value?

[never mind]

Hi there

Thank you Ken.

I have scanned another few hundred assorted files already and I am adding a very brief description to each.

They will be uploaded here at a later date.

I think the 390+ files that I uploaded this week will be enough for now.

All toll the job is very time consuming, to say the least.

Dynaco will be another real biggy project.

As with those smaller AR catalogs, subtle little differences inside but different numbers on the rear covers, dates I believe.

The Dynaco 400 had at least 4 or more different front panels and switches during it's production life, besides the several different

circuit boards Dynaco used during production.

I do have some original Dynaco manuals which have never been read.

I have even found my buried original Heathkit manuals.

Since I moved here I also have acquired several of the Heath AS series of manuals, which speaker drivers were supplied by AR.

The cabinets were not, sadly, of the same high level of quality as those used by AR, sadly.

I am not looking forward to damage by breaking those manuals spines to scan them.

I also have AR originals of, Roy Allison and Edgar Villchur's, small, 1/4" thick, hifi books.

Funny thing is, there is a comment about the price of them, about $1.00 each which was raised to $1.50, if I remember correctly.

Postpaid directly from AR.

These have never been opened up and I may not because of the book's spine issue, which would definitely happen with the scanning.

I will repeat myself here and say that I still have over 600+ files of Wally's which I have never copied any of them to here.

I was anticipating Wally getting all the credit for the work and posting them here or Mark.

That would be a major updating of descriptions.

I've only recently been feeling good and this is a bit of enjoyment for me.

Enjoy.

Hi there

Several times I have tried to add comments to any file that I uploaded here.

There does not seem to be a way for me to do that here.

I will need to delete them all, add a comment and then upload them again.

Extremely time consuming for this one finger typist that keeps hitting the oops key.

The only thing that comes to mind is using the file name itself to indicate something about file contents. For files you've already uploaded, maybe you could edit the individual posts and add a table of contents:

file 1: AR something something

file 2: AR something something else

etc.

That would be far quicker than deleting, renaming, and uploading again.

Not a bad idea as long as the table of contents is part of the post text and NOT another attachment. Then it would be searchable.

I tried to find a way to edit the attachment title, but couldn't do it.

Vern, have to checked with Gene to see if he could assist somehow with renaming the files without deleting and uploading again with new titles?

Hi there

Here is just a few AR price and dealer sheets courtesy of Wally.

I was just seeing if I was able to upload a few of Wally's files.

I had scanned them, not too great of a job I must say, and saved them all as JPG files.

I am able to upload the 600+ JPG files, if that is ok with Wally and Mark.

Of course I would need to add a description to each. WOW

To do it over again I would make them all PDF files.

The visual quality is not too bad though.

The far right sheet ar75.jpg has the Vancouver dealer I heard the AR-6's at.

Enjoy

ps I see I really goofed.

There is no identifier for any of them. OOPS

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I just downloaded and saved the far right one, ar75.jpg, on my computer.

It automatically saves it to that name and jpg file.

I tried saving it to something else, jpg, but Bitmap is the only other file option on my computer at least.

Extraordinary effort Vern. Thank you. I had seen a lot of the files back in the 70s but it's fun to go back through and think of those times. I did find some very useful information. The speaker comparison chart gave the information I needed to compare the sizes AR2ax and the AR5.

For future reference, visit here and click on the last item on the list for a chronological listing of vintage AR gear. It includes cabinet sizes for most speakers.

Hi Don

I still have approximately 1200+ pages, including Wally's 600+ pages, to scan and/or post of many different brands and models.

I will need to break the list down by brand still.

UPDATE 09:34 Some of the files I have already uploaded are not AR.

I will be deleting them shortly and re-posting them to their proper name listing.

Hi Carl

I just downloaded that pink price sheet and printed it out in full colour with no problem.

It is a .jpg file.

Side by side I see almost no difference from the original copy that I posted.
