Guest
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean old Ar grill cloths (the beige colored cross-hatched pattern) without extensively damaging them? I saw a post on the Advent website, but the old AR cloth seems to be somewhat different than Advent's cloth and I'm not sure what to use where it won't cause any severe discoloration. tysontom
If it is the beige-linen, AR-3a-style grill cloth, you could carefully unstaple it from the frame and then either hand-wash it or have it dry-cleaned. What you have to worry about is the material shrinking once it has been wet and then is dried. In some of the newer frames (around 1974 and later), the grill cloth was glued and stapled to the frame, so this makes the job harder. Hand-washing is probably the best way to clean it once it is off the frame, but there is never any guarantee of getting it back on properly, even if you can get it clean.--Tom Tyson
