Guest spazmochad
Hey guys,Been trying to get my hands on some AR-90s for a couple of years and I've finally succeeded. First thing is I've refoamed the drivers. These were a little different from the 94 and 925s I've had in the past in that the magnets were square and they had another piece of card under the dust cap. - Is it safe to assume I don't have to replace this extra bit of card, only the dust cap?I'm also about to start on the crossovers:- Does anyone have hi-res blueprints and schematics they could email me please? I'd really like to study them with a friend before attempting my first re-cap. - Also does anyone know of any good UK based speaker parts companies?- Lastly which types of capacitors are the best to use?Lastly the wood veneer is looking a little tiered. In the past I've sanded, stained and varnished to good effect although the wood was usually cheaper looking. - Is there any better way of finishing the wood on my 90s, bearing in mind they have water stains on top.Cheers for any advice. I'm really itching to get these up and running.
rrcrain
There is an excellent set of prints on the AR90 crossover in the library on this site. They are accurate and what I used when I recapped my speakers.I recommend doing one crossover at a time. This way, you can use the other as a reference if there is a problem understading the schematic. As for a UK parts source, the best I can do is recommend you search the web if no one can come up with a source. As for the type of cap, everyone has their own opinion. I suggest you stay from the gold plated, diamond encrusted miracle caps that promise to resurrect the dead and stick with a decent cap that's within your budget. I prefer the polypropolene(sp) variety myself.Regarding the finish, there are others here far more adept at cabinet refinishing than I am.
Carlspeak
With regard to UK speaker parts, I'd make a post over at the loudspeaker chat area at URL www.diyaudio.comThey seem to have a more international membership than this board. Also many UK posters there who should be able to help.
Guest spazmochad
Hi thanks for all the tips. I've seen the images in the library however they are too small for me to read hence the need for hi resolution verions.

I've seen the images in the library however they are too small for me to read hence the need for hi resolution verions. It's been a few days since I looked at the files, but I think if you click on the images they will expand to full screen. I did print full page schematics from the files for what thats worth.

I chose not to remove either when refoaming my AR-90 (though some here insist on cutting/removing the dust caps and using shimms). For higher resolution versions of the blueprints, and links to more general and pertinent discussion of the AR-90, see this thread/post:http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Boar...ost&p=72384Cheers,Robert_S
ar_pro
Consider taking many, many photos of the crossovers and their associated wiring from every possible angle. You'll thank me.
Guest spazmochad
Just wanted to say a big thanks for all your help. I imported the cap from Madisound following the advice of another from another forum member in one of the threads you linked me to. I left the boards in and soldered through the holes. I now have a fully working set of AR-90s!Gonna sand them down over the summer and stain them a darker rosewood, hopefully removing the black water stains on top. In the meantime I'm replacing the grill cloth as it is stained and has holes in it.Many of my friends scoffed at the fact I spent so much on what were completly ruined speakers, asking why I didn't just buy some new ones. Now they've heard them they've changed thier tune
