ninohernes
Hello I recently purchased a pair of AR-3 speakers. The crossovers need some work, the pots are bad, there are some lose connections, the usual stuff. I was thinking about upgrading the crossovers to 3a crossovers. Is the increase in quality noticeable? I have listened to AR-3’s before but I haven’t had a chance to hear the 3a’s.
charger3834
In addition to the crossover, You have to change the midrange driver and the tweeter to the AR-3a types. Otherwise you are most likely better off cleaning the pots and leaving them AR-3s. The AR-3 was one hell of a good speaker, why not try to restore a classic. The difference between an AR-3 and a AR-3a is not a blow your house down kind of difference, the AR-3a is just an improved design. If one listened closely, better dispersion and a more open midrange would be apparent.
