charger3834
What was the reasoning behind the AR-1x ? It appears to be similar to the original AR-1 but,it has the 2.5" AR wide dispersion cone. It would seem that this model was introduced well after the AR-1 was discontinued. It certainly was not one of AR'S best values. Is this model quite rare ?
Steve F
Interesting that you should bring up this model--I have always been fascinated by it also. I have never actually seen one, much less heard one. Did it have the square "AR Inc." logo like the 4x, or the later red-debossed lettering on brass logo like the 3a, 5, and newer 2ax?At $194 ea. in oiled walnut, it was considerably more than the 5 ($175ea.), but I suppose if you just HAD to have that 12" bass response, it was the least expense way to go. I'd love to find a pair.Steve F.
charger3834
Steve, I have never seen one either. I would tend to think that it had the ARINC logo given the time it was marketed. The ARINC logo is my personal favorite. I don't think any ARs besides the 3a and the 5 had the new style logo plates before 1970.
