At first i would like to congratulate you all with your new president!! (is he a hifi enthousiast??)

Here is my question: is it a good idea to use a stereo 400 amp. with audiostatics; a dutch full-ray electrostatic speaker?

Can the amp handle low impedances in the higher frequencies?

Greetings from the netherlands.

Hi Fred;

There is maybe 5 or more variations of the original Dynaco 400 basic power amp.

There was at least a phase one and phase two model that I remember.

Dynaco claimed that the 400 was stable, but there is more than just one type of electrostatic speaker system manufactured since the end of amp production.

With so much time having passed, the amp should have all the electrolytic caps replaced.

Resistors can be replaced with lower noise metal film or other inexpensive but quieter performing ones.

The Dynaguard circuit may start kicking in at around 2 ohms loads.

A Double Dyna 400 might be more up to the challenge for driving electrostatic speakers.

The final model 416 was likely more forgiving of electrostatics and other very difficult loading speakers.

Even the final 416 would require updating of some components.
