AB Tech Services (Alex Barsotti and others) at one time had the foam grills for AR-11 and AR-10Pi (same grill), and they are probably still available. I think AB Tech is the authorized techincal service representative for all of Recoton's speaker lines, to my knowledge, such as, AR, NHT, Advent, Jensen and perhaps others.

Check with them at:

Thank you, Tom.

I know about AB Tech but for some reason assumed they wouldn't have grilles. Maybe they didn't have cloth for the 2ax's I rebuilt or something.

In any case, I will give them a call tomorrow and we shall see. I'll let you (and others) know either way.

NOW you tell me. :-)

I'm afraid I lost the speakers in an amplifier accident some years ago. I don't even have the cabinets anymore, but I know who to see if I get another pair.

I do love this website.

Hey, Dale,

Could you send me a small sample of the different grill cloth materials you have for the AR-3a, AR-2ax, AR-4x, etc.? I recall that you were able to get some of this grill material from some source. I am particularly interested in the earliest beige-linen grill, first used on the AR-3a. I'll be glad to send you $ for a sample. Thanks!

Thanks Tom. I was able to get the grilles from AB Tech. A pair, including shipping, is going to scare the heck out of $75, but they are on their way to me.

Bret, unfortunately, this is a fairly expensive hobby, especially the repair-end of it. I think what has happened on the cost of the foam grills is that AB Tech had to have molds made, and they are amortizing their investment cost in the selling price, which I suppose is a necessary evil. But think of it this way: the AR-11's are definitely worth the expense!

I look at it like this: If I were restoring Jaguars it would cost a lot and at the end of the day I couldn't enjoy driving the car for fear I was going to run into a bug and ruin the paint.

At least with a pair of speakers you get to enjoy the results almost every day.

I feel especially good about this set of 10pi's. An old friend's wife called and asked me to help her restore them for him as a surprise. He's been hauling them around for 15 years without being able to listen to them.
