Big Lafayette full-range speakers???

I saw a pair of speakers in the local thrift shop that caught my eye (but I didn't buy). Wonder if anyone here has any ideas:

• Big real walnut veneer cabinets, probably bigger than my AR2ax's
  
• Front frame is beveled
  
• Grille cloth is coarse-weave, feels like straw
  
• Lafayette logos
  
• Back screwed on--probably not acoustic suspension. Speaker terminals are little screws, like a 300 ohm antenna connection
  
• The grilles don't come off, but the cutout behind each is a big oval--maybe 10" x 15". I suspect a single full-range driver.
  

They were in pretty nice shape, except for one grille, but I did not need another pair of monsters. Anyone know what they are?
