Guest bubbas_buddy
It now appears that I may never get around to restoring my pair of AR11b's. Let me tell you about them. My brother bought these speakers along with other, now vintage I guess, audio equipment around 1975(his guesstimate). They cabinets appear to be walnut and have minor surface scratches and,if I remember correctly, the usual complimentary spousal "the speaker is a plant stand" water stain on top of one speaker. They are completely original and have never been worked on or modified. All original drivers are there along with foam grills and badging. The woof surrounds need repalcement. I beleieve they would be a great project for an AR lover.I have speakers from another manufacturer and definitely do not need these speakers, although I would like to hear the sound that the AR's would make. My question is this: What would be a fair price for these speakers? I'm not looking to get rich but the speakers deserve more than the local dump. I'm not a big fan of E-Bay as I believe most people overstate the condition of speakers sold there and I haven't had the best of luck there myself. I'm thinking primarily if the speakers will be worthwhile of my time to box and ship them and the possibility that they may incur damage in shipping. I'm not a UPS fan. And BTW, I have the original AR boxes. Thanks for your response.buddy (Southeast)
Guest Nigel
Buddy; You can probably clear $100 on the pair, buyer pays shipping. FedEx Ground is very competitive, often less than UPS. And Greyhound (yeah the bus..) is also very competitive - depending on to/from locations.A refoam kit will run you about $25 - 30. If you did that to them, you should be able to clear $200-250 for the pair. I do not know how you value your labor though.Nigel (OKC)
Guest bubbas_buddy
Thanks for the response. I still hope to restore the AR11's. They are actually in good condition save the foam surrounds, which my local speaker shop will refoam for $30/pair. Sure would like to hear 'em!bb
Guest
Well, I don't know if there's any difference between 11b's and 11's, which I have, but if I were you, I'd have them refoamed and keep them. My 11's are just plain awesome.....makes me really want to hear a pair of 9's.Helix
