I've got the possibiilty of obtaining a pair of A25s and am considering active crossovering at about 1750 KHz. I already have an intact A35 pair that I obtained on eBay this summer. I've done nothing with these but enjoy and would never consider altering them. The bass boost on the Apt Preamp gives just the right amoung of kick to the music I enjoy (Wagner opera, classic rock, and jazz vocals).

But I wonder...

I'm not even familiar with your speakers, but do have first hand experience bi-amping and using an active crossover.

Not knowing your speakers, I'm forced to ask what the crossover frequency is fore passive crossover in the speaker. As an example, my speakers passive crossover is 200hz, so I set the crossover one octave over and under, or 100 hz and 400 hz to keep from interfering with the passive crossover. Your milage may vary, but this should get you in the ballpark.

Richard,

Thanks for your ideas. I don't know the crossover freq. Just listening to test tones on the Dynaco A35s I have, the tone rises from the woofer to the tweeter with an approximate center of 1750 Hz. I already have a triamped system, so am familiar with active xover techniques.

I plan to remove the existing passive crossover in the A25 (if I get it) and directly wire to the speakers from the active xover. Of course, I will wire in a series protection cap for the tweeter.

I'm mostly wondering if anyone has tried this before on A25s and what was learned, especially differences in the sound.

Kevin
