Guest Waferman Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Hi, I just found The Classic Speaker Pages--what a great resource! I need to refoam one of my classic Advent masonite woofers. Originally the surround was inverted, but the one pre-refoamed one I bought on Ebay has the surround the more standard "buldged out". Is there a difference? Is this the wrong way, or is it just easier this way and there is no difference?Thank for input, these have been in my family since 1974 and I look forward to getting them up and running again! John

JohnThe surround must be installed with the roll facing down or concave. The inner lip of the surround is glued to the top of the cone edge.BTW, you should refoam both. If one needs it, the other will soon - unless it has recently been done.

I read on audioreview forums where it was done facing up with no issues, but I always like to get other's ideas before I redo the prev. owner's refoam. -John

There is no need to remove it in order to refoam the woofers.....you'll only make things much more difficult if you remove it. There's a lot of info here and over at Audiokarma.org on refoaming these woofers. I would detail what I did, but I honestly don't remember the exact procedure without seeing them in front of me. A search should yield the proper procedure......just like this:http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/archive/i...p/t-118404.html Hope this helps and good luck........it's well worth the effort.

Thanks Doug, it really helped to read about others experience. I also ordered some Dayton DMPC 15uf 250v caps for the crossover... the guy at parts express said the 15uf would be ok to replace the 16uf 50v in the original crossover. Anyone used these? and was it a good choice at $5.23 per cap?
