The Marchand is a nice unit but way out of my league. I bought a Rane AC-22 right and installed it in my system. I have Altec Valencias and use my old Mac amps the ss 2505 (50 WPC) for the low end and the tube 275 (75 WPC) for the horns.

I still need to get a setup cd or a tone generator for proper setup but so far I love the sound. The ss amp seems to have more control over the bass and the tube amp helps tame the horns a bit.

I'm happy with the sound and while the difference is not night/day it's still pretty audible to me.

I agree, the Marchand tube crossover is far from cheap and further from inexpensive. I looked at it and did my research for near 2 years before breaking down and buying one. I saved a fair amout buying it in kit form but after hearing the unit, I decided it is absolutely worth the asking price assembled. The 8 12AX7 tubes tamed the SS amps amongst other things.
