Guest Mike Gibson
The Marchand is a nice unit but way out of my league. I bought a Rane AC-22 right and installed it in my system. I have Altec Valencias and use my old Mac amps the ss 2505 (50 WPC) for the low end and the tube 275 (75 WPC) for the horns.I still need to get a setup cd or a tone generator for proper setup but so far I love the sound. The ss amp seems to have more control over the bass and the tube amp helps tame the horns a bit. I'm happy with the sound and while the difference is not night/day it's still pretty audible to me. rrcrain
I agree, the Marchand tube crossover is far from cheap and further from inexpensive. I looked at it and did my research for near 2 years before breaking down and buying one. I saved a fair amout buying it in kit form but after hearing the unit, I decided it is absolutely worth the asking price assembled. The 8 12AX7 tubes tamed the SS amps amongst other things.
