Hi;

This is just my 2nd post to this site, which I found while looking for information on a pair of powered Advents.

The schematic of the Powered Advent is a very good resource, thanks!

I also have a pair of Chrome Dome Gale 401's. Some years ago, before I appreciated the importance of keeping the components on vintage equipment intact, I took the advice of a speaker shop and replaced 2 of the 4 woofers with replacements.

Does anyone have information on these? Parts, service information, x-over schematic, etc...

I do have the original owners manual I can scan and send along if anyone's interested.

Thanks.

Mike

Mike,

I just got some chrome dome 401s too. Connected them to my leak stereo 20 valve amp and they sounded terrible - flabby! But with some transistor muscle they are absolutely singing. This is real bass and timbre - I just don't think that ported loudspeakers can do it...

I'd love your instructions if it's not too much trouble to scan them.

What settings do you have the adjustment pots on?

And how come they are so clearly superior to 98% of modern speakers?

Hi Mike:

If you want to download the scans to this web-site it would be appreciated by all, thank you.

Check out the Advent library to see if anything of interest is there.

A common problem to most all brands of speakers is foam rot.

This is a deterioration of the surrounds and can happen every 7 - 15 years.

You can re-foam each woofer for about material cost of $20.00 US +/-.

Good luck.
