JKent
Just bought some Sixes on ebay. They will have to be refoamed and the speaker grilles need repair. The vinyl cabinets are OK--some scuffs and one bashed rear corner. If my plan is to re-sell these eventually, would it make sense to tear the vinyl off and apply real wood veneer? I'm thinking maybe oak or mahogany. Any thoughts: ThanksKent
Guest abobotek
I've re-veneered a pair of CD-7 speakers that were damaged by UPS. It took around 8 hours and $85 (in veneer, foam and hardware) to complete the restoration. Compare the prices of "trashed" and "mint" speakers. Unless you can set up a production line, there's barely enough to beat the hourly rate for flipping burgers. Also, a botched veneer job (peeling/bubbling) is a risk that a potential buyer may have no way of assessing. That being said, the speakers look like new, and have the teak exterior that I've always wanted. Alex
JKent
Thanks Alex. If I had a place to use these, I'd go ahead and do the veneer. But these will have to go, so I'll put them on ebay with the original vinyl and see what happens. Prices have been crazy! A week or so ago a single Allison CD6 went for almost $300! Yet in Feb a PAIR of CD6s went for under $80!! Go figure.
