Guest PAL Owner
Hi;I found this site while looking for information on the latest addition to my vintage audio collection; a beautiful pair of Powered Advents (sn: ZO 00719 & ZO 00727) with orginal boxes and packing material.I'm waiting on foam replacements and looking forward to giving them a good listen afterward.I've done a short search of the site and found some helpful information. I look forward to a more thorough search.I saw the Advent Broacher .pdf file and it's similar to the one I have from 1971, when I bought the large utility cabinet Advents. (I still have these ‘ole faithful Advents.)The difference in the broacher is there's no mention of the Small Advents.I'd be glade to scan it if it would be of interest to the forum.I also have some information from Advent on:- "Servicing The Advent Loudspeaker" 4 pages; including the following; Diagnosing the Defect, Replacing the Woofer, and Replacing the Tweeter.- “Note on Placement of Tweeter Terminals”, including #2 tweeter choke testing and specs by speaker s/n.- “Service Bulletin No. 3”; broken lead on Choke #2- “Important Fusing Information”, Fusetron FNM 8/10I received the information in 1974 when Advent replied to a letter I wrote about a non working tweeter.I replaced the defective fried-egg tweeter for one with the protective mesh grill for $15.00. I’m looking forward to reading and catching-up on the Advents and the many variations on the originals.Mike
dynaco_dan
Hi MikeWelcome to this web site.I believe you'll enjoy your visits here, by looking back in the older write-ups, working your way up to today's.The library is well looked after by Mark, as literature becomes available from readers. You'll read about a number of issues, questions and solutions from readers from all over the world. I certainly have found my experiences here to be very enjoyable. For literature, you can download it yourself or contact Mark, the webmaster, regarding copying them.If I read you right, the literature you have certainly will be most welcome by all of the readers, as something not already listed on this site.Good luck with your re-foams and excellent choice of speakers.I have not personally heard, that particular model, but any model Advent is great with me.Please let us know of the outcome. >Hi;>>I found this site while looking for information on the latest>addition to my vintage audio collection; a beautiful pair of>Powered Advents (sn: ZO 00719 & ZO 00727) with orginal boxes>and packing material.>>I'm waiting on foam replacements and looking forward to giving>them a good listen afterward.>>I've done a short search of the site and found some helpful>information. Guest PAL Owner
Hi Vern;I scanned the literature and zipped them up into a big, over 600 MB, file. Too big to upload, so I put it on a CD.I just need to find a way to get it to Mark for up loading. Also, I have "Press comments on the Advent Model 300 FM Stereo Receiver"- 6 pages and "Advent Model 300 Stereo Receiver Temporary Service Manual" beginning with serial number J01000" - 15 pages. Then there's 8 pages of "Press Comments On The Advent Frequency Balance Control".Would these be of any interest to the forum?Mike

Guest PAL Owner
Vern,I'm glad the information I've squirreled away can be of use to others. The CD is on its way to Mark with another to follow soon (I hope).I'll go through my other material and see if there's any thing else worth scanning.By the way, reading the posts has inspired me to move the pair of large Advents from the shop back into the house and "double stack" them with my 'ole faithful large utility Advents! Thanks for putting me in touch with Mark.Mike

If you haven't done so yet, go to the library, Advent section and download the owners manual. The manual has maybe 10 pages, plus a Double Advent speaker review, it's well worth reading. They say, they used a 3 amp fuse, not the one recommended by Advent. They didn't quite say what that recommended size was.I would suggest using a smaller fuse at maybe 1 1/2 - 2 amp rating for them today. The speakers are 25 years old and shouldn't be driven as hard as when they were new. It may have been the same fuse size you wrote in your first write-up, thank you very much for that elusive information. At the beginning of August I wrote a topic asking for that information.I knew it had to be out there somewhere, even if it wasn't actually published for everyone that owned them.I assume you have a service bulletin. With your single speaker fuse information, I feel we should go for a lower rating as well, because of the old age. There again, fast blow fuses are a more affordable and readily available option, if someone can advise us as to the amperage rating.Thank you and Mike and Mark
