>I'm trying to find some original style grill cloth for my AR speakers. Any recommendations would be appreciated.<

The original AR-3a grill cloth was a beige-linen material, and this was used on the AR-LST, AR-LST/2, AR-3a, AR-5, AR-2ax, AR-2x, AR-4x, AR-8, AR-6 and AR-7 in the 1967 - 1973 era. After this, and during the Advanced Development Division (AR-10Pi, AR-11, etc.) years, the grill materials for those speakers was sourced somewhere else, and it was a white-shade of linen, and thicker and less acoustically transparent. The AR-MST/1 used this newer fabric. The newer fabric is probably still available from AB Tech Services.

I know of no source for the original beige material. Unfortunately, it was the best material ever, but I think it is no longer manufactured by anyone. Anyone have know where it can be found?

The AR-3 used an entirely different grill material. It was a ivory-colored, nylon-type material common for the era, and it was acoustically very transparent. This material would turn yellow in time, and badly showed dust and dirt in the frame openings.

I have lots of both linens. AR used 3 shades that I am aware of. White, off white and off-off white. If you want samples, I will send free to you. I bought them from a factory that had a warehouse full of AR grills and fabric at auction about 2 months ago. They sub contracted to Teledyne/AR making the grills. Dale in Reno.....

It would be great if you could send me a sample of each shade that you have. Thanks very much.

It's been a while since we talked about this, but you were going to send me some grill cloth and I didn't receive it.

I'd REALLY like to have some.

How much of the old cloth do you have? The whiter the better, assuming this is still the slightly off-white white of the 70-ish cloth.

Hi Bret, If you email your mailing address, I will send you the samples of the linen fabric that I have. 3 shades, you choose. Looks really close to the original and is very acoustically transparent. Dale
