Guest
I have advent legacy II's 10 " drivers that need to be refoamed. Has anyone used a DIY kit with success or should I have it done.
Guest rickcee
Hi Well, I tried to re do some 8" AR 6 spks -- the kit I bought didn't exactly fit - the new surrounds seemed about 1/ 2 or even 3/ 4 " too big kinda a hatchet job . . . I'd say if you want a quality job send to a quality place , otherwise why bother ? And I'd say good Advents are definatly worth the extra 40 - 50 $. anyway Rick
fixtillbroke
I've used kits from Orange County and Simply Speakers on some other drivers but this time I bought a kit specifically for the "Large Advent" sold by Partsexpress. The fit was perfect. The glue was much easier to handle and replacement dust caps, shims, swabs and instructions with complete clarity were included. This was by far the best job I've done. The other factors that made this job better were the condition of the drivers, the set up I did before starting and the fact that I took my time, allowing the glue to set up completely. Haste makes sh.t.
stan461
The Parts Express kit worked perfectly for me. Just make sure you take a measurement. There were 2 size woofers manufactured (they carry 2 Advent refoam kits) and with the help of Parts Express tech person I got exactly the kit I needed. Take your time. Its really not difficult and I am totally satisfied with the results.
Guest wec53
I just finished refoaming a pair of Legacy II woofers, my first attempt. Was very pleased with the results. They sound great and look as good as new. I used a kit from Wooferrepair.com. Their price was reasonable, they included everything you need including directions on dvd. The complete instuctional video is viewable on their website so you can decide if you want to tackle the job before you buy. I would highly recommend them. Do not use the Large Advent kit, call or e-mail them to make sure you get the right surrounds.
Guest Dino1956
Just finished refoaming my 2 Large Advents with the Metal Ring around the Woofer. The Surrounds extended onto the Metal Rings and could have been trimmed but I just glued them to the Metal and the Glue they give you sticks great. Bought the Surrounds @ Simply Speakers. I just kept an eye on them while they were drying and applied pressure with my fingers and they sealed great. They are up & running and also sound great. It's pretty simple to do. I think there is a Video to download from Simply Speakers that you can download. Good Luck !

This update is intended to inform Legacy II owners that the foam used on those models is somewhat unique. The attached document highlights the difference between original foam and standard foam sold today in most, if not all refoam kits.I have a number of newly available surrounds of the original design in stock if anybody needs them. It's all about the musicCarl's Custom Loudspeakers
