KLH 17 crossover values?

Recommended Posts

I am refurbishing a pair of KLH 17 speakers and want to replace the

crossover components. I have identified some resistors and

a capacitor with a value of 8UF 50VNP, but what is the other capacitor

looking component. It is the size of the 8UF but has the following

information " TEMPLE, 0015-00-0122, RED2X2 UF 50 VNP, BLACK COMMON,

65C 7212". Does anyone know what this is? your help would be appreciated. JULIANKOWA

I'm sure what the vaue is either based on your info. I suggest you remove it and take it to an electrician who has capacitance meter and get it measured and then you'll know.

Capacitor info:

Mfgr: Temple

P/N: 0015-00-0122

Value: two 2mfd non-polar sections (red wires)with a common terminal (black wire); 50 volts rated.

65C is probably the rated maximum temperature and 7212 is probably the manufacturing date (twelfth week of 1972)

The two sections may be switched between series and parallel by the tweeter switch. This is done in the KLH5.

Thanks for the post.

I am restore a KLH 17, I hooked it up to the amplifier, one tweeter had no sound, the other tweeter had real weak, low volume, I pulled out both tweeters, took it to the shop, hooked them up with a audio signal generator, and sweep the audio freq. through it, and both tweeter worked.

I haven't digged into the crossover yet, both woofers work fine, so do you have any idea what the problem may be? Could the crossover components go bad? Bad wires? I've seen bad wire from aging on a old Dual turntable, also, do you have the schematic and component values for the KLH 17?

Thanks for your help.

PS, I have a pair of Genesis 20 in mint condition, the only thing I've done to it is refoaming the woofers (normal for 20 year old speaker), it will be my next project for upgrade.

Could be a capacitor. I recently acquired a pair of KLH Fives with no tweeter output from either speaker. It turned out to be the same dual-section non-polar electrolytic cap in each box.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

Are the components in your speakers connected to the crossover by wire nuts? I am curious if that's was how they did it back then.

Also, how would you take the old wood veneer off? I like to put new ones on.

The model Five uses wire nuts.

Can't help on woodworking issues. I'm an electronicker.
