Classic AR9 - Melbourne, Oz contacts and tech assist

Hi all.

I'm looking for any assistance/leads to reliable tech assistance available in the Melbourne area (also checking if there are any other fans down here).

I've been a fan of the AR9's since I listened to a pair at Brashes in Melbourne nearly 30 years ago.

Couldn't afford a set at the time and then they went off the local market. Finally got a 2nd hand set (surrounds already refurbished) about a year ago and I am no less impressed than long ago (probably can't tell the diff now).

Anyway one of the woofers foam surrounds has come adrift. I'm a complete novice, apart from the info I pick up from this site, so I'd be looking for someone/somewhere to go to get the foam fixed/replaced. At the same time I would like to check out the rest of the woofer workings to ensure it's OK (and anything else that is good practice to check on the AR9's once I go to the trouble of moving this giant).

The only place I know is SPEAKER BITS in Melbourne but I don't know if they need AR9 experience/knowledge or if there are better options.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Steve C.

Hello Steve.

I know an Aussie chap who was a customer of mine earlier this year. He is familiar with Acoustic Research and speaker repair. I sent him some parts for his 3a's.

David Perry resides in Maleny Queensland.

It looks to me from you picture you simply need to re-glue that surround's edge back down. Anyway, he should be able to help.

Cheers!

It's all about the music.

From the glue marks evident in the photo, it looks like the surrounds have already been replaced since the speakers were new but the surround has torn. Gluing the surround would not work in this case.

I had my AR94 speakers repaired by "Total Recoil" in Thornbury about five years ago and they did a fantastic job. I can recommend them.
