Guest hilltroll67
Depends on how 'authentic' you want to get. DIY cloth is a straightforward alternative.Bob

tysontom
>>Hi Klaus ,>>thanks for your reply, I'll take a look for sure, hear you>soon !>>All the best ,>Berislav Berislav,I have AR-16s as well, and the grills are long gone. Ironically, AB Tech used to carry foam grills for the AR-10Pi, AR-11, AR-12 and AR-14, all of which were very nearly identical, but I am not sure if they carried replacement foam grills for the AR-16. Finding original foam grills (in good condition) for the AR-16 would probably be very difficult. The open-cell foam was cut and then machined to open up the foam material adjacent to the drivers themselves, so there is little incentive today for someone to set up an operation to do such a thing. The foam grill also contains the AR-16 emblem, so when the grill goes, many times the emblem gets lost along the way.The AR-16 was an unusually good speaker, underrated and over-built with a relatively sophisticated crossover for a small 2-way 8-inch speaker. The crossover was similar to the AR-14, and the end result was a speaker that was uncolored, relatively accurate and very listenable. AR struggled with the quality of the 1-inch, soft-dome tweeter (also used on other AR speakers of this vintage), originally supplied by Peerless. At first there were immense quality-control issues with this tweeter, and at one point AR had to discard large numbers of them due to QC problems (resonance and distortion issues). I believe that along this time AR began making the tweeter in-house, and many of those issues went away. AR did not ever ship any bad 1-inch Peerless tweeters, but this QC fiasco was very costly in engineering-time and money.--Tom Tyson
