AR5 Tweeter Replacement

I'm looking for an AR5 tweeter replacement, the one that is top wired, is 4.75" overall with a grey 0.75" dome, and, in my hands measures 6.7 ohms when in working order.

I think I saw someone mention similar speakers which had been 'officially modified' by the addition of a resistor across the terminals to change the apparent impedance.

Do I remember correctly?

If so, should I be searching for something other than an 'official issue' AR5 tweeter, i.e., under another model name where I can 'restore' the tweeter by removing the resistor so that I can use the speaker in an AR5?

Thanks,

baumgrenze

I wrote about a 3/4" tweeter that I have that has a sandcast resistor mounted, hot glued, on the rear of it's magnet.

I do not have it onhand to verify it's value or for that matter the tweeters DCR as well.

Official, I don't know, no one else has mentioned this issue and I do not have any other readily available onhand information on that unique arrangement.

It may be a 8 ohm tweeter or not, my guess is yes.

My thought only is, that it may have been an experiment to have one tweeter, 8 ohms, with an easily added or not parallel resistor dropping the resistance down to a 4 ohm or equal tweeter.

When I find that elusive tweeter, I will post it here with photos.

This was one of many tweeters I've bought off ebay over the years.

My other advice is the way to go, ebay and AR-2AX tweeter.

The other drawing that another member downloaded, from the library, is a photo of the engineering modification required to physically adapt the rear quick connect connections to a front wired terminal strip.

If not clipped it may hold the frame out of alignment.

At least the cabinet opening needs to be knotched for the clips.

It is not a resistor modification drawing.

I remember having an official AR drawing of that resistor arrangement and it's application, I am certain, my memory is failing too fast though.

Hi there;

In noting that this topic is regardng the AR-5 tweeter, that drawing is the AR-5 and 3A midrange driver drawing for use in mounting a rear contact driver with the wiring going to the front mount terminal strip.

Whereas the drawing would normally not be applicable to the tweeter driver, in this case it is, there must be a similar missing specification sheet for the tweeter, describing the same alteration for the same style tweeter contacts.

The tabs are in the way, as in, standoffs from the recessed edge and removing them or notching the cabinets will solve that dilema.

Perhaps someone that is really creative could draft up such a non-official alteration amendment sheet for the library.
