stupidhead Posted November 10 Report Posted November 10 The back story is this was a friend's father's amp. He bought it new late 50's and used it gently for an undetermined amount of time and then tucked away in the closet under the stairs til about 10 years ago when she approached me to gauge any interest I might have in acquiring it from her. She knew I was into all things music/audio. I have never been a guitarist nor did I have any need for a guitar amp but I love all vintage stuff. When I saw it I had to have it and after some research it would appear to be in amazing condition given vintage and nature of item. We struck a deal and it has been sitting in my closet for a while and decided to have it professionally serviced this past Spring. I did some research to find a qualified tech and stumbled onto Jack Donahue from Audiotech Services in Somerville MA. Here is a link to a bit about Jack, who has been Aerosmith's Joe Perry's tech, among others. Needless to say he is more than qualified and graciously went through the amp, changed power cord (upgraded), replaced some caps, ran it through whatever techs do and when I picked it up he gave me a brief demonstration. For a guy with his credentials to say this is one of the nicest little amps he has ever worked on really made my day. The Alnico 5 is one of his faves. I have struggled with what to do with it but have decided to sell it to fund some upcoming audio projects I have coming up. The prices I have seen are all over the place but have not seen any examples sold or for sale that come close to the way this thing presents. If you really look close there are some minor blemishes on it, but 70 odd years later is amazingly clean. I am not positive but is likely 1958 +/- a year from my research. Sale price is $2,800 firm. Possible cash plus gear would be considered, could use an audiophile grade TT for a system I am putting together for example. If you know a vintage guitar amp person please let them know about this offering, stuff like this does not become available very often in their world. I really do not want to ship this unit. My location is near Nashua NH and could meet up somewhere public within a 30 mile radius or so. Could also coordinate an audition but again I do not have a guitar so be prepared. Thanx for looking Quote
