day67
It might really be a question about speakers, too. When, or what year, or approx serial #, did the AR 2ax's start using the flush mount tweeters? There's a pair on line with serial# 141,xxx that would appear to be the "new" style, but appears to have the recessed tweeter and ? (cant really tell from the pics) the 6-screw woofer, but the woofer lacks the rings in the cones found on the cloth surronds. Maybe I have this mixed up?? charger3834
Well, 141xxx belongs to the "new" AR-2ax group. As for "flush mounted" tweeters, these did not come until very near the end of the 2ax production run. My 1974 254xxx still has its tweeter recessed slightly in the cabinet.141xx is an early "new" 2ax and it would have been produced sometime in 1970. It should have either the oversized 6 bolt, foam surround woofer, or the smaller 4 bolt version with a 4 to 6 bolt adapter ring. The oversized woofer hole in these 1970 cabinets is a legacy of the "old" AR-2ax (1964-1969). It featured the original AR 10" woofer(cloth surround) that also had an oversized frame. In 1971, the cabinets were changed to fit the smaller frame of the new 10" woofer.
