Speaker Stands

I should have mentioned that this is not a sale pitch for me or anyone I know, I merely purchased 4 of these and I'm 110% satisfied. Honestly there is nothing out there for such a low price that compares. I found after buying a set that they were excellent for the money, I bought two more and I'm considering buying more for later AR set-ups. Later on spikes can be added for better floor coupling as they come with rubber feet. In terms of their welded construction and heavy steel stock I felt they'll be a great exceptional bargain for any big box AR-2 to AR-3 or 10,11, or even AR-LST owner. This is a excellent find and I'm merely passing on a great deal to all of my AR-CSP friends. Please post your opinions, I'd like to hear them, or simply email me at frankmarsi@verizon.net

I've been looking for a miracle of this quality for many, many years. Take advantage as I think stock will deplete soon.

My friend and your's, Frank Marsi

Hi Frank,

I checked them out to see what was so great. Unfortunately not much of a miracle for Canadians. They want $71.99 US for shipping. Lots of Ebayers charge exhorbitant rates for shipping, especially to Canada. Often the distance involved is less than to some states. I'm pretty sure in this case I'm closer to Texas than Seattle for example. They obviously don't want to sell to us Canucks.

No reflection on your stands. Merely a commentary on some Ebay practises.

Another interesting note is that it costs more to ship from a location in Canada to another in the US than vice versa, at least with any of the couriers. When I asked UPS about this they said they 'don't have the infrastructure in Canada'? What does that mean? I see hundreds of their trucks everywhere and they deliver to he most remote locations.... plus they charge exhorbitant brokerage fees, usually twice as much as the post office.

Ah... got that off my chest..... LOL

Wow! Sorry to hear about such transgressions of state and life and mind.

I’ve bought 'parted-out' AR-3A woofers from there and paid dearly for shipping myself.

I feel that whole thing you describe is awful and unnecessary and certainly unfair to you Canadians and us Americans alike, besides, you did help in WW2 after all…

This whole thing all these years regarding Canadians versus USA sort of speak must be a British long term pay-back.

Those guys run the lower half of this continent and the Z-French run the upper half. I’m just a simple Italian in NYC, third generation.

My ancestors only civilized those two factions of Gaul and Engla-terra 20 or 25 centuries ago. There’s nothing I can say, my side tried long ago!

Don’t feel left out, my people are not even considered these days! Maybe not even Guili--- himself today for the future president.

LOL~!!!!!!

P.S. Believe you me, those stands are great. They cost me $29.USD for the two stands and $37. USD to ship from not so far away from me at all, it sucked. Don’t you see?,- this is the present and new culture; everyone is getting screwed and nothing can really be done about it- the population is just too big and greedy to control.

LOL!

Segway here....

Frank, we didn't help in the war, we were there 2 years before the US was..... you guys 'helped' by supplying military equipment..... to the Russians, oh Iran, oh Iraq.... oops...... LOL

By the way, Canada whipped the US in the war of 1812..... sorry about burning your capital......but at least we left Boston alone so that all those great speakers could be built there. We planned ahead..... LOL

Now where were we, oh yes, now I know why we pay so much to get stuff from the US. You guys are making us repay for burning Washington... LOL

Sure,

rub it in Frank!........ LOL

Hey, I decided to keep the LST's and sold my AR2ax's instead to a life long friend who has been begging me to sell them to him. Another AR convert. From the minute he heard the 2's at my place at Christmas time, he wanted them. Actually I really like them myself but I still have the 12's, 48's and 58's to play with although none sound as satisfying as the 2's except the LST's. That having been said, I sometimes liked the 2ax's better than the LST's. The bass is cleaner and tighter. Not that the LST bass is bad. I remember years ago Bill and I preferred the AR5's over the AR3a's for the same reason. Just in those days we had to settle for Advents because the AR's were just out of our reach.

A hi end audiophile was over on the weekend to pickup a pair of headphones he bought from me. He has Krell and a whole bunch of other new high end equipment. He was name dropping all his hi end stuff and sort of sneering at mine. His jaw dropped when he heard the LST's powered by my old modified Crown stuff. Offered to buy them, and the 2ax's on the spot. I forget what speakers he has but they are current megabuck models..... Told him the LST's weren't for sale and the 2ax's were already promised to my friend Bill.

Love it when this old stuff amazes these audio snobs.

Wally, that’s funny to read about your guests being amazed to hear your vintage system.

Not too long ago I too had some quests over and gave them a little taste of my sound system. First off, I was asked where was the sub-woofer located (I have none) second I was asked how old were the speakers and from what era did they come from? My answer to that question was; “my speakers are 34 years old, my amps and turntable & cartridge are 32 years old, my CD player, interconnects, speaker cables, are 15 years old, the last fart I just cut was from last night, the garlic I had too much of. ” My answer was quickly met with astonishment and surprise, not about the smell, but about the age and appearance of my geriatric- like system.

You know what? The comments were from a 19 year old musical instrument player and his 46 year old father. The father when a young teenager used to hang-out one block from my parents house in summer of ’74 when I used to blast my Phase-Linear 400 and AR-3a’s so loud that 16 year old kids would dance in the street at night while drinking beers illegally on the corner while chucking the empty cans into the woods. Irony here is that I still use most of the same equipment and it’s still looking and sounding great, though I and my guest have aged noticeably.

At the risk of sounding like a dribbling, incoherent moron (which is not a stretch for me) I’m still so enthralled with my vintage AR’s and music system, I thought we AR buffs should maybe have a meeting or convention like other self-absorbed and flag waving individuals group together for like the ‘Elks’, The Raccoon Lodge Members or other organizations I see.

Look at the Apple computer following, they even have cruises and trips to far off places.

While on these trips (some go on ship cruises also) and the like where they have group discussions and exposes’ regarding their strong love for their Mac CPU’s. Why not ‘AR-People’ meeting let’s say perhaps at the ‘Old-Forge Motel’ near the Hess building on Route 9 South in New Jersey ( a place where me & my ex-wife would go for weekend romps while dating), I could even request the same rooms. Just think, we’d have K.K. & T.T. and noted others arrive as guest speakers,-no pun intended. I’d work hard and could probable get Ma_k Levin__n to show-up and describe his experiences with AR-LST revisions and the like, or how much did it cost him for the LST cabinet patents. I’d invite many people from the Far East and ask them why are they so in love with old AR products?

I’d try to get John Atk__son from Stereo__le mag. and force him, for his first time to listen to AR-3a’s, which he’s never done , or so I’ve read.

I realize, my banter here may seem obscure and at times, down right bizarre, but think of the possibilities. I’d hand out black T-shirts with white AR logos. AR tie pins, watches and pens, lighters and handkerchefs and lolly-pops.

We’d schedule a walk to the old AR store in Grand Central Station which isn’t there any longer, but at least we could get a mental picture and feel of how it used to be. Perhaps a visit to the old stereo store area on 45th. Street and Lexington Ave. I’d rent a bus to cart us to the former ‘Radio-Row’, where there was also the World Trade Center after they knocked it down, the DIY radio stores I mean, and then the towers. We could certainly take a stroll to the slow-dying Canal Street area that once was a dreamland for DIYer’s as now it is merely the skeletal remains of what it once was. And by that time both of my systems will be completely finished and I’d invite everyone to come on over for a listening session at my place- tickets sold at ‘Ticket-tron’ only.

So let’s take a vote, are ya in, or are ya out? I’ll need help, but I’m non-violent and not a threat to any one so I don’t have any meds. to offer.

My own worst enemy, but not yours, Frank Marsi

I always enjoy reading your posts Frank.

They are funny and provocative... in a good way.

It would be truly entertaining if someone could set up a replication of the 'Live vs AR' sessions of the past... with old and new speakers...

The techies could bring their slide rules to set the tone....

(Pete, Ken etc.) LOL

The rest could bring their favourite records, CD's, amplifiers etc.

I certainly would enjoy something like that.......

Would be like the twilight zone for old audiophiles..
