Guest trentcanuck
I've been combing all the online resources I can find, but I am stumped as to what model of speaker I just acquired. It is an oiled-wood cabinet with walnut (?) top-caps and the removeable fabric-sleeve grillcover. (I think maybe the cabinets have been re-varnished?)Each speaker has two side-mounted 8" woofers, and a 5" midrance and tweeter. The cabinets measure approx 31.5" H (including plastic plinth), 14"W x 11" D.Can anyone tell me what these are?? Your help would be appreciated.

nfmisso
The pictures look like a modified AR93, or a good copy. With a table saw, it would not be difficult to make a copy of the cabinet of an AR93 (or 94).
Guest trentcanuck
The woofer is labeled (under the AR logo) 1210067-0BAnd below that is 272TNGTHANKS!!
KlausDK
HiThat specific driver was used in AR 18BXI think the speaker in the pictures looks a little like some of the EPICURE designs, but I think they were equipped differently driver-wise.BR Klaus
Carlspeak
I agree with a prior post. It's an AR93. 1980 vintage. If they sound great to you, what does it matter what model it is!ENJOYRemember, it's all about the musicCarlCarl's Custom Loudspeakers

Rlowe
A photo from the Forum Library would suggest it is not an AR93 but rather a hybrid of some sort. The AR93 is on the left and has the 8" woofer and the AR Tweeter on a larger front panel.http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/dc/user_files/1744.jpgHope this helps. Supercooper188
I have the speaker and it looks like an AR-93 to me. It looks just like what I have except someone has put a few modifications on it.

JKent
>The cabinets measure approx 31.5" H (including plastic>plinth), 14"W x 11" D.This is really off-topic and tangential, but it reminded me of my confusion about the use of the word "plinth" in audio. I looked up plinth in several sources, and this is a typical definition:Plinth:n. (Arch.) In classical architecture, a vertically faced member immediately below the circular base of a column; also, the lowest member of a pedestal; hence, in general, the lowest member of a base; a sub-base; a block upon which the moldings of an architrave or trim are stopped at the bottom. See Illust. of ColumnSo, YOUR use of the word makes sense, but what part of my AR turntable is the plinth? (I think it is the flat horizontal surface below the platter) And why is it called a plinth? It's not vertical, not the lowest member of a column or base. I'm confused....
soundminded
Hahahahahaha. Why do audiophiles call it a "plinth?" Because they are too snobby to call it by its real name which is what is commonly used in similar equipment...."motorboard."
Guest jel
Yep, the one on the left looks like my AR93AR93 definitely has 3 identical 8" drivers.Even the tweeter/mid cutout looks smaller, so i doubt it's a retrofit.
