dynaco_dan
Hi there;I have read a bit here and there about Cello Amati's on this site.I believe that Minh is the expert with this brand of speaker. There is a pair of Cello Stadivarius on sale on ebay starting at $5,000.00 US, said to sell originally for $38,000.00 US.If my memory serves me right, they used AR-3A/LST drivers in the Amati at least, if not specially ordered. All of the drivers in the Stradivarius do not remind me of any classic AR drivers, except maybe the latest versions. This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to see, what most of us have only read about. These are a little rich for me and I do not know who the seller is. frankmarsi
10-27-06Vern, I trust Minh will know best on these speakers more than I, but I believe Cello used "Dynaudio' drivers in these 'Grands'. Just a moment while I think out-loud...'In a way of speaking, with my stacked 4-LST's I'm running the same amount of drivers, 16 mids, 16 highs and 4 woofers, fact I may have some bragging rites here. I'm sure newer Cellos would sound better than my 4 geriatric LST's, but gee, in my little world, I feel I may come damn close and for what I paid for my 35 year old LST's, I may be much happier all things considered, especially the cost.' Funny thing how I can easily please myself like this.Frank Marsi
Guest Cliff
Hey guys,I have double stacked Amati's from 1986 and they have the original AR drivers which I believe were used up to the early '90's. Then they switched to the DynAudio drivers. Since the Grand Masters were introduced in 1991, there is a good chance they contain the DynAudio drivers. You may be able to find a little more info at matthew-james.net. Even as old as these are, they can still sound beautiful, I wouldn't trade mine for anything.Happy listening,Cliff
frankmarsi
10-27-06That's correct the site that Cliff mentions I had posted here on CSP a while ago and is recommended viewing for all AR buffs. matthew-james.net is a good site to see the last extent that the AR science went to. On this site you'll notice they claim that double stacked Amati's are equivlent to their 'Grand-Masters' by virtue of the same amount of drivers. Speaking for myself and my dear ole' LST's, I'm not far behind. So in realizing that fact I can gleefully say, "I feel pretty, I feel pretty, Oh so pretty and gay". Wait a minute, STOP the MUSIC, STOP the MUSIC, do I really feel THAT happy?? Is that Too-Happy?FM
