Guest cober
I have ...9122 and ...9132 and am the original owner. The grills show "AR9". The cabinet finish at the upper mid-range inside of the acoustic blanket cut-out is black. I had the foam inserts around the tweeter and upper mid-range. And the woofer grills are made using a fiber filled resin (I understand there was a variation on this).I am also interested if someone knows anything about change history on the 9's. Guest bolly
"Got the final word on the AR9/AR badge issue from a guy who used to build the AR9 speakers in Massachusetts. He says they used to build 7-8 AR9 speakers per day starting in 1978, and ending in 1982.In the first year the AR9 was built, the grill cover and badge were different from the following years. The first year had the "AR" only badge, and the nipples holding the grillcover in place were attached to the inside of the grillcover. Apparently there was an issue with these nipples being lost when removing the grillcovers. So, the following year the nipples were placed within the wood cabinet, and the badge changed to "AR9". So those AR9s with the "AR" only badge were made in the first year."
Guest David in MA
>>So those AR9s with the "AR" only badge were made in>the first year."Interesting information - I guess that means that I have a pair of first year AR-9s. Does it make it worth more? I wonder...Thanks for the info...
