Guest Randy O
Just curious if using marble approximately 2" thick would work for AR3a cabinets? I'm a novice on speaker tech and repair, although I just refurbished my first pair (AR2ax). I noticed AR used different thickness of fiberboard for different models. Am I on the right track with this idea, or will I end up with 200 lb. poor sounding imitations? The marble was the right price, free from a local print shop. How many other people here noticed that all AR's on ebay are estate or from the same dead uncle or minister? I must be one of the few people who actually is an original owner of a set of AR's. Thanks for any ideas on the marble idea.
ninohernes
Marble would be ideal, if the inside was lined with sorbothane, then stuffed with fiberglass. It would give you the most dead cabinet possible.
Guest russwollman
...and it would give you the most amazing hernia when you decided to experiment with speaker placement.
Guest Randy O
I understand the hernia comment to well having moved these slabs over the years! As far as the cabinet thickness for mdf board, how much did this have to do with the actual sound of certain speakers? I'm sure the various thickness's came from the marketing people for cost effectivness. Would 4ax actually benifit from the thicker mfd as used on 3a's, or is the 1/2 in. more than needed for the smaller drivers used?
