Jimmy o
Hi. I have a pair of AR 92 speakers I got as a Christmas present back in 1980. I want to try to restore them. The grill fabric is torn and I don't know how to remove the AR emblem off of the grill without breaking it. Also the wood veneer which I believe is Maple is chipped on the corners from moving a few different times over the years. Does anyone know how to remove the AR logo? Also what type of product and how I would fix the corners and also the edges of the speakers? I also lost the foam that goes onto the tweeter and would like to purchase that. Can someone please help me? Sincerely, Jimmy O
JKent
Welcome Jimmy Some photos would help. I restored a pair of 92s a couple of years ago and the cabinets were walnut-grained vinyl. I also checked the brochure in the Library: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/library/acoustic_research/ar-9_series_1978-1981/ar-9_series_brochures/ar_floorstanding_speakers/ar_floorstanding_speakers_p_4.html IIRC, the badges are pinned to the grilles. There is either a post, in which case you should be able to pull it straight out, or there may be a spring metal washer on the inside which would have to be pried off. The foam ring around the tweeter is no big deal--you can leave it off. Or make replacements from black Shop Vac filter or try these felt diffraction rings: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/acoustic-damping/dampers-felt-defraction-ring-for-tweeters/ Unless you have already done so, you will need to refoam the woofers. Keep us posted and ask any questions. Also search the AR section for "AR-92" to find additional info. -Kent
