  1. Nice to find a little info on Avid speakers. I just picked up a pair of 105's last week. They are big, heavy as hell, and sound great! They had been in storage for a few years. This is gonna sound weird, but I swear, the more I play them, the better they sound. I wasn't impressed at all, the first 15-20 minutes or so, but then they started sounding much better. Is this possible? Am I crazy? Maybe the surrounds were stiff and loosened up? Lol. Anyways, these remind me of large Bozaks, or JBLs and I'm thinking they'll probably be keepers. Playing them on a Sherwood integrated amp #S 702 CP, and streaming some Art Pepper through a bluetooth adapter. If these sound this good on this setup, I can't wait to hook them up to my Hafler, or Luxman L480. Opinions, snide remarks?
  2. Thanks for the info Diogenes! Finding almost zero info on them. Where did you locate yours?
  3. Well, guess I'll have to break out my Binford 2000 electric hammer and chisel assembly, and get to work on mine. Anybody got a list of what I should order as replacements before I begin this operation? Or... are there sometimes different caps depending on build date?
  4. JKent, thanks for your reply. I only saw one B 199 Bc woofer on Ebay. I wasn't sure if the others that end with a different suffix would directly interchange or not. I'd like to find an original if I can, but I also don't want to go overboard dollar wise. The one woofer that I saw was about $100 shipped. The $10 ea tweeters sound great and were the right price. Lol.
  5. Your speakers look great, nice work. I've got a set of Sixes also. They sound a little tired too. I'd like to replace the caps in those, but not looking forward to the operation. Looks like a lot of trouble.
  6. So I picked up a set of Dynaco A25 speakers, along with a Dynaco pre amp and tuner from a downsizing friend last week. Speakers sound great. I was pleasantly surprised. Seems the hype is correct. Lol. Well he called me again and said he'd like to also sell his pair of Dynaco A 350 towers, and a pair of JBL Decade L36 speakers. Twist my arm I said and I'll do you favor by taking them too. Lol. I can't pick up the others until probably next week, since I messed up my back recently. The big Dynacos are quite heavy and sound really good. Anybody else got a set of these A 350's in rotation? If so, I'd like your opinion of them. Presently listening to a pair of Bozak LS 250a speakers that I picked up at the flea market last week for cheap money. Good thing they were cheap, because I found out that both tweeters were blown, along with one woofer. I ordered two tweeters and a woofer from Parts Express and slapped them in a little while ago. They are sounding great with some jazz. (Eddie Harris)
  7. I noticed when I push down on the bad woofer, it seems stiff, and noisy like it's scraping. It also bottoms out and makes a tap or metallic sound when it touches the bottom. The good woofer operates very smooth, no noise, and doesn't bottom out. Burned/broken voice coil perhaps?
  8. So I snagged a pair of these at a flea market yesterday. Guy said they worked and if any issues he'd give my money back. He was asking $50 but said just give me $30 and take em. Ok sold! Hooked them up later and found one dead woofer and two bad tweets. The tweeters were kind of expected, based on what I'd read earlier. The tweeters show open circuit. The woofers jump in both directions with the 9v battery test. The good one sounds great, the bad one sounds.... bad. Rattles, vibrates, distorted sound. Bad woofer ohms out between 5.6 and 5.9. The good one shows 6.7 These are model B-199 Bc Speaker cabinet is stamped 8 ohm input below speaker connections on rear. Are these numbers considered in spec? Shouldn't both read closer to 8? I ordered the recommended tweeters from Parts Express and a cheap 12" woofer just to slap in for now. Any recommendations where to go from here? Anybody got a good woofer for cheap? Help a brother out and all that? Lol. Thanks for reading, and any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.
